You don't have to have walked this path before.
We'll walk it with you.

Care differently.

Some things can be taught. Others begin with how you see people. We look for adults who are thoughtful, genuine and willing to keep learning alongside the children they care for.

Curious

Looks beyond what is happening to understand what might sit beneath it.

Consistent

Stays dependable, even when relationships or situations feel difficult.

Reflective

Thinks about their own responses and is willing to see things differently.

Warm

Brings kindness, humour and human connection into everyday moments.

Open to challenge

Welcomes feedback, asks questions and keeps developing their practice.

Hopeful

Holds onto possibility, especially when a child is struggling to see it.

Working for Helm

Support that goes beyond the shift.

Caring well for children means caring for the people around them too. We want our teams to have somewhere to turn, time and space to think, opportunities to grow and practical support that helps both at work and beyond it.

Looking after you

  • Wellbeing and Resiliency Action Plan (WRAP) - based around what actually helps in time of crisis
  • Life admin hours - four paid hours each year for unavoidable appointments and admin (planned in advance)

Because you matter too.

Supported to work

  • Rota Pattern - knowing your working day in advance, with minimal routine last-minute changes
  • Weekly clinical drop-in - informal access to a Mental Health Practitioner, including remotely from home
  • Protected reflective practice - clinical reflection separate from management supervision when things have been particularly difficult
  • Relief & floating team - additional staffing support when teams need it

You don't have to do it alone.

Investing in development

  • Paid Training and Helm Scholarship - in addition to the existing training and qualification offer, Helm-funded development beyond mandatory requirements
  • Career lattice - progress through clinical, education, mentoring, safeguarding, training or leadership pathways
